The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) held a workshop
near Seoul, Korea on June 30-July 1, under the slogan of “New WTF, Best
IF (International Sport Federation).”
The two-day event, which took place in Jangheung,
Gyeonggi Province, came less than one month after the WTF’s
organizational and personnel reshuffle, and the moving of its
headquarters to Seoul in early June. The aim was to formulate a
blueprint that will transform the WTF into a benchmark for all
international federations in the Olympic movement.
The event drew key leaders of the organization,
including WTF President Chungwon Choue, WTF Secretary General Hoss
Rafaty and President of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) Ji-ho
Choi.
In the morning of June 30 at the WTF’s new, central
Seoul headquarters, WTF President Choue awarded letters of appointment
to four persons.
Prof. Kook-hyun Jung of Korea National Sports
University, who also serves as a WTF Council member, was appointed
chairman of the WTF Technical Committee, while WTF Senior Advisor
Chang-shin Choi was named chairman of the Ad-hoc WTF Committee on
Protector and Scoring System. Prof. Jong-kook Song of Kyung Hee
University, was appointed chairman of the WTF Education Committee, while
Se-baek Oh was named special advisor to the WTF president on finance.
Following that, Choue told WTF staff, “Now it is time for us to work together for a ‘New WTF and the best IF.’”
In the afternoon, in Jangheung, there was a friendly
soccer match, followed by special lectures by WTF Secretary General
Rafaty, PATU President Choi, WTF Senior Advisor Choi, and others.
